What Nigerian female celebrities said on International Women’s Day

Sunday, March 8 was celebrated around the world as International Women’s Day (IWD).

Trust the women, they grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

While some sent various messages across as a way of encouraging each other, others used it to preach “equal right and justice” (Courtesy of the legendary Reggae super star, Peter Torsh of blessed memory).

And Nigeria’s female celebrities were not left behind. Maggie’s Blog captured some of the messages as presented below.

OMOTOLA JALADE EKEINDE

When we say Gender Parity, what we mean is that:

1. A girl child being born with same excitement as a boy child.

2. A girl child getting same educational opportunities as a boy child

3. A girl child not given more chores or burdening chores separate from boys

4. A female being given same opportunities and pay as her male counterparts if she does same work

5. A woman given same opportunities to serve if she chooses to

6. A woman not being abused, physically, mentally or psychologically just because she is more tender. Yet, she is different not inferior.

7. Women given just the same inheritance as others (the males) in the family. Women are givers of life, respect them. Some are breadwinners just as men, give them their entitlement when they work for it. They are tender beautiful beings, treat them with care.

@myscanfrost and I have chosen ways to share life with equal indulgence – cook together, watch TV together and enjoy life as different but equal humans. Shall we?

YEMI ALADE

There will be no me without you mummy. I learnt everything I know from you. The woman race is in session. The marathon continues. Happy woman of steel day everybody.

INI EDO

I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life is a bitch. You have got to go out and kick ass. Maya Angelou. To every girl kicking ass in these streets, may we know them, may we raise them.

RITA DOMINIC

By lifting each other up, we lift ourselves up – Lauren Fleshman. Happy International Women’s Day to all the women who strive to make the earth a better place.

KATE HENSHAW

Queens all over the world ...

Celebrate yourselves. Love one another. Find your tribe and reach your goals together. We rise by lifting each other. Let love lead and let your light shine so bright that it illuminates the path of your sisters. Happy International Women’s Day.

GENEVIEVE NNAJI

Together or alone, we are unstoppable. Happy International Women’s Day. #ngoziokonjoiweala.

DJ CUPPY

Happy International Women’s Day to all my female DJs kicking ass (Even though the men say they do it better).
