Youths attack Gov. Al-Makura's convoy

A group of 50 youths on Thursday night, attacked the convoy of the Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko al-Makura, at Mararaba-Garku community in Karu Local Government Area of the state, while on his way back from a political rally.

Although, no life was lost, witnesses, said the youths pelted the governor‘s convoy and smashed the windscreen of the press crew and a Volkswagen Sharon bus.

Another source said the governor‘s convoy was ambushed by the youths while returning from an installation ceremony in Gurku, where he presented the staff of office to the Emir of Gurku, Alhaji Jibrin Waziri.

A trader, Ibrahim Saleh, whose kiosk was close to the scene of the incident, said the immediate intervention of the police saved the day, as the youth threatened to burn the entire village.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ugochukwu Theodore, confirmed the attack, saying that the police were able to bring the situation under control.
