I will support best presidential candidate, says Diya

Former Chief of General Staff (CGS), General Oladipo Diya, said yesterday he would support only the best candidate in next month’s presidential election.

Speaking exclusively with Daily Sun in Abuja, he urged President Goodluck Jonathan and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, to play by the electoral rules.

Diya was silent on his preferred candidate. He also refused to confirm the statement by former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida that retired Generals have endorsed Buhari’s ambition.

He dismissed fears that the forthcoming general elections may tear the nation apart. “No, no, no, no. It cannot divide Nigeria at all. Nigeria has come together and nothing by the grace of God, will divide us.

“As far I am concerned, they are talking nicely and so far, they have not done anything against the regulation. I am supporting the best candidate. Everybody is talking and they are telling us what they are going to do and what they will not do,” Diya said.

Maintaining that both Jonathan and Buhari are doing well in their campaigns, Diya noted that everybody should just know that the country is greater than any individual.

“Everybody should just know that the country is greater than any individual. I mean, they should do the best and play the game by the rules. That is all,” he stated.
