Update: Curfew imposed as war rages in Maiduguri between troops and Boko Haram

A curfew has been imposed on Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, with immediate effect till further notice.

This follows the on-going war for the control of the town between Nigerian troops and Boko Haram insurgents, who launched an attack on the state capital and neighbouring Mongunu this morning.

A tweet by Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters said: “Troops are repelling a simultaneous attack on Monguno and Maiduguri by Terrorists.”

It added that “Coordinated Air and Land OPs being conducted now.”
