The leader of Boko Haram, Shekau Abubakar, yesterday said neither President Goodluck Jonathan nor General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), is fit to rule Nigeria, describing them as infidels.
“Nigerians are busy with politics, hailing Buhari! Buhari, Jonathan! Jonathan! Do you think the two of them are spared? Do you think even Buhari is a good Muslim? Buhari is not a Muslim as far as we are concerned. He is nothing but an infidel and our enemy," Shekau said in a new video posted on YouTube.
He also claimed responsibility of January 3 attack on Baga community in Borno State where no fewer than 2,000 civilians were reportedly killed and 3,700 homes and businesses destroyed. At least 16 surrounding settlements were also razed.
Shekau declared that the Baga massacre was the beginning of serial attacks that will finally shut down Nigeria.
“This will mark the end of politics and democracy in Nigeria,” he warned ahead of the Feb.14 presidential elections.
“We killed the people of Baga. We indeed killed them, as He (Allah) instructed us in His Book,” Shekau said, according to a translation from Arabic provided by SITE Intelligence Group. He added: “We will not stop. This is not much. You’ll see” in the 35-minute message, which was posted on YouTube.
“This is just the beginning of the killings. What you’ve just witnessed is a tip of the iceberg. More deaths are coming,” said Shekau in the local Hausa language. The video shows weapons supposedly captured from a key military base at Baga. He described Nigerian soldiers as cowards while saying that the quantum of arms captured from the military base in Baga was enough for the group to defeat Nigeria.
“We are now showing the world all the arms and ammunition that we got from the Nigeria army barracks in Baga, Doron-Baga, Mile-4 and this barrack. What we have in our armoury now, plus all that we had before is enough to execute a victorious war against the whole Nigeria,” he taunted.
“As you can see we have thousands of AK 47 rifles, we have so much that we are still conveying them to our camp here. We have AA, we have different kind of them that can be mounted on vehicles. We have Shell Car; we have RPGs; We have mag and so on. We cannot just mention them. We have dozens of vehicles and thanks to God that has given us,” Shekau added.
