Early morning fires have caused panic in some parts of Lagos, the Nigerian economic capital. Frantic phone calls by listeners to ‘The Papers This Morning’, a 7-8am programme on Radio Continental, Lagos, indicate that fires are currently raging in at least three parts of the state.
The affected areas are Balogun Market, Sawmill Market in Makoko and some parts of Igando.
The cause of the fires is not immediately clear but callers and ‘The Papers This Morning’ panelists linked it to the current harmattan. They called on the fire service to intervene promptly to battle the fires.
