Scores may have been killed on Sunday afternoon as twin blasts hit the Global System Communication (GSM) market in Potiskum, Yobe State, North-East Nigeria, residents said.
Witnesses said that two female suicide bombers on tricycle came to the market. As one alighted and went inside the market, the other was left in the tricycle as the two explosive devices went off simultaneously.
An eye witness told Channels Television: “I can confirm to you that the situation at the moment is tense up after the twin blast went off around 3:15 this afternoon and rescue operation is still going on and no one can tell you the casualty figure now. It’s so sad that we keep hearing this on daily basis.”
Authorities are yet to confirm the blast but hospital sources said that some bodies have been brought to the hospital mortuary as rescue is still going on.
Today’s twin blast came one day after another explosive device went off at the Divisional Police station also in Potiskum, killing two people on the spot.
The Potiskum GSM market is located close to Brema Primary School along the Mohammed Idrissa Way in the heart of the troubled commercial city.
