Okupe attacks Buhari for attending church service, accuses him of desperation to be President

Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), has come under attack from a presidential aide for identifying with Christendom in the countdown to the February 2015 presidential ballot.

Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, ripped into Buhari him for attending last Sunday’s annual thanksgiving church service organised by the Lagos State Government in partnership with the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye. It was Buhari’s second consecutive appearance at such a gathering, the first being his attendance of the wedding of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s daughter at St Joseph’s Catholic Chaplaincy of Imo State University, Owerri, on October 11 last year.

Commenting on the development, Okupe wrote around midnight on his Facebook page: “It was a great sight to see Buhari on the front row at the Lagos thanksgiving service. The consultants trying to rebrand GMB are truly working hard to clean up his agelong reputation as a religious fundamentalist.

“It will be nice to see him take Holy Communion at the Christ Cathedral in Lagos. It is quite perplexing to see what extent some politicians are willing to go to capture power at all cost.

“I only wish he had done this after the 2011 elections. Those young youth corpers that were murdered in response to GMB’s inciting statements, will still be alive today. Jesus is Lord.”
