Jonathan’s lobbyists shouted down at Ohanaeze meeting

For the second time, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, yesterday failed to endorse President Goodluck Jonathan as the preferred candidate of the South-East zone.

Attempts by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu to initiate the endorsement at the expanded Imeobi meeting of the body at Ohanaeze Ndigbo headquarters, GRA, Enugu, was vehemently opposed by some of those who attended the meeting; prompting an abrupt adjournment of proceedings by the President-General, Gary Igariwey.

At the meeting yesterday, the motion for Jonathan’s endorsement was vehemently shot down following disagreement from various interest Igbo ethnic groups. Iwuanyanwu and others behind the lobby were shouted down.

South-East Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, had queried Ohaneze’s leadership on the rationale for the endorsement of President Jonathan warning that a repeat of the 2011 error might spell doom for the Igbo nation.
