Warri Wolves striker Omofomwan welcomes competition from Arsenal’s Akpom for Dream Team shirt

Arsenal of England youngsters China Akpom and Semi Ajayi are being heavily linked with a call-up to the Samson Siasia-tutored national Under-23 football team, the Dream Team. For Warri Wolves attacker and Under-23 invitee Freedom Omofomwan who may have to battle for shirts with Arsenal striker Akpom, the invitation of these players would ensure the much-needed competition in the team.

In a chat with News Express in Benin City, Omofomwan welcomed the potential battle with Akpom for a place as the Under-23 top striker.

“I don’t see anything difficult for me (about the potential arrival of China Akpom in the Olympic team camp.) We can gain from the competition and the best would be picked,” Omofomwan said with a relaxed smile.

The young player is in his hometown of Benin City where he is currently on break from the Dream Team camp. Omofomwan is a defender’s nightmare. His speed, tricky step-overs and ability to shoot with both legs are qualities that have made him stand out and seen him bang in a number of goals for Warri Wolves in the last Nigeria Premier League season. He is also comfortable operating from anywhere upfront (as a top striker, support striker and from the flanks), and his eye for goals is outstanding.

The 19-year-old attacker is a product of the famous BJ Foundation Academy team (the youth team that produced Super Eagles duo of Elderson Echiejile and Victor Moses, as well as

Porto midfielder Mikel Agu, amongst other ex-youth internationals).
