Gunmen shoot 15 dead in Kaduna •10 killed in Plateau, 30 houses burnt

About 15 people were reportedly killed yesterday by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at Ambe-Madaki village in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack came barely a week after some gunmen attacked Tattauru village in the same local government, and killed ten people and injured several others.

An eyewitness account said that the gunmen, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the village around 4am on Friday morning and started shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze in the process.

He said that scores of residents of the area sustained varying degrees of injuries from gun shots while over 20 houses in the area were set ablaze.

When contacted, the former Chairman of the local government, Emmanuel Adamu, said that he was not in the best position to make any official statement on the attack as their tenure ended some weeks ago.

Adamu added that he was also out of the country as at the time the incident took place and therefore had no details.

The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Aminu Lawan, could not be reached for comments, but a security source in Sanga, who craved anonymity, confirmed the attack.

In another incident, no fewer than 10 people were killed and 30 houses burnt in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as a result of hostility between Fulani herdsmen and the indigenes.

Since Wednesday this week, there have been attacks and counter-attacks between the Fulani and the indigenes in Mangu LGA during which three people were beheaded in Kantoma village in the council area.

It was learnt that people suspected to be Fulani on revenge mission swooped on Shurun village and killed 10 people while more than 30 houses were set ablaze in the early morning attack.

An eye witness said gunmen shot sporadically into the air to the villagers. “It is quite worrisome that the gunmen have been identified as the Fulani herdsmen living within our communities. They carried out the deadly attacks and got back to their huts unharmed. The calibre of arms and ammunitions used by the attackers goes to show that it was well coordinated to eliminate us,” he said.

When contacted, Plateau Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abuh Emmanuel, said he was yet to get full details of the attack from the Divisional Police Officer in the area.
