BREAKING: United shock City in tense Manchester derby

Manchester United players celebrating Saturday night at the Ethihad

English Premier League defending champions Manchester City are now 14 points behind leaders Liverpool after being shocked at home by visiting underdogs Manchester United on Saturday night at the Ethihad Stadium.

United made their intentions known early in the tense Manchester derby, and were on their way to victory with two quick first half goals.

Marcus Rashford put the visitors ahead when he confidently sent goalie Ederson the wrong way to slot in a spot kick.

Six minutes later United extended their lead when a rampaging Anthony Martial fired a low cross from just outside the area that beat Ederson at his near post.

Nicolas Otamendi gave the hosts some hope when he headed home a right flank corner kick in 85 minutes but all efforts to even scores were thwarted by the resilient visitors to leave scores at 2-1 despite five minutes added time.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton had earlier won their matches.
