The wife of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman of Osun State University, Osogbo chapter, Mrs Funmilayo Abiona, who was kidnapped in Osogbo, Osun State capital last Friday has been rescued in Ilesa, Osun State.

The operation was carried out some hours ago by a team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of Osun State Police Command.

News Express findings revealed that the woman is safe and sound. She was recovered from a spot at Oke-Omiru distirct of the town on Osogbo road.

Commissioner of Police Alhaji Abubakar Marafa was said to have invited the woman’s husband, Dr Oluseye Abiona this morning to his office in Osogbo, having reportedly perfected plan to send his team on the rescue operation.

While filling this report, the rescue team was still on its way to the police command headquarters where the CP and Dr Abiona are waiting to receive the woman.

“I will certainly brief you when they arrive. For now I cannot say more than confirming that she has been rescued,” a source told this medium.

Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Folashade Odoro, also confirmed the story but decline to give details of the operation. “She will soon be brought to the command by the rescue team,” Odoro confirmed.

It will be recalled that Mrs Abiona was abducted on Friday soon after she closed her shop located at Oke-Baale axis of Osogbo.

She was said to have been in her car with her two children when the suspected abductors suddenly emerged and ordered her to alight and enter their car.

She reportedly put up a strong resistance, but the effort could not save her from the armed youth who allegedly threatened to hurt her.
