National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, handed down a 14-day ultimatum to pay the student-indigenes bursaries and scholarships for 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 sessions.
Addressing newsmen at a press briefing at Iwe-Iroyin, the National President of association, Comrade Balogun Abdulgaffar, stated that the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration has been promising to pay the bursaries and scholarships without fulfilling it.
He explained that the pressure on the executive of the association is tensed because most students who are self-sponsored are relying on the bursary to augment their academic expenses.
According to Balogun, the demands of the students include “immediate disbursement of bursary and scholarship awards to our members as earlier as possible; immediate implementation of reduced tuitions regime in the state-owned tertiary institutions, among others.
The students revealed that the slashed tuitions are yet to be implemented at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, having resumed for a new academic session.
Meanwhile, the state government had promised to commence the implementation of the new tuitions from the new academic session when it was announced last October. However, the association has vowed to embark on massive peaceful protest visitation to the governor in the advent of ignoring its call.
