It was a tale of uncontrolled weeping, tears, sobbing and lamentations as renowned Communication Arts expert, Professor Idorenyin Akpan, was buried today at his country home, Obotme in Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Prof. Akpan, who was popularly called “Teacher ID” or “Young Prof” by students and admirers, died on October 29, 2014 after a brief illness. His sudden demise came few days to his 45th birthday and he left behind his mother, brothers, a wife and two daughters.
Prof. Akpan’s death has been described as a colossal loss not only to the academia but also to the entire nation.
Mourning the Advertising and Public Relations wizard, media professionals noted that “the loss of such an erudite and gifted university don will be difficult to replace.”
A product of the famous Hope Waddell Institute, Calabar, late Prof. Akpan later gained admission into the then University of Cross River State, where he studied and graduated in Communication Arts.
He had taught Advertising and Public Relations courses in the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola in Adamawa State, for more than 22 years. Until his death, he was Chairman, Communication and Mass Media Design Programme at AUN.
Very humorous, an intelligent academic and social mixer, nthe late Prof. Akpan equally had a stint with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Extension Service, at its Uyo Centre, as a senior lecturer in its Communication Technology Department.
