Elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s shot at the presidency as a monumental failure on Nigeria’s trajectory to nationhood.
Yakasai who spoke with Daily Independent in an exclusive chat said that the current situation in the country was worse than what President Buhari inherited from his predecessor in 2015.
The nonagenarian said President Buhari’s performance in office over the last five years exposed “a man lacking incapacity” to lead the country out of the wood.
Elder Yakasai, who was a Special Adviser to late President Shehu Shagari declared that “for the avoidance of doubt, I don’t have any personal problem or issue with the sitting president, but my concerns were his glaring unpreparedness for the plum job”
He said, “I was the first Nigerian to alert the world that Buhari was not capable of leading this country, and what is happening now has vindicated my position” he stressed.
Yakasai, one of the surviving Northern Progressive Elements noted Buhari came to power with two clear agenda, Corruption, and insecurity, and on these two areas, I don’t see what anyone would tell me that these taunted agendas have achieved it’s set goals.
According to him “I know in the field of fighting corruption, only two people were convicted, and they are the former governors of both Plateau and Taraba states, and their journey to gulag started during the Obasanjo’s days in office. ”
Yakasai stressed “when Buhari came to power, the main security challenges in the country was Boko Haram, and after sometimes, he made a proclamations that the insurgent group has been technically defeated, and he knows better as military General, when enemy is defeated, the next line of action is mop up operations. ”
“By now, and from the time Buhari made that statement till date, ordinarily, i think we should not hear anything about Boko Haram, unfortunately, they have become embolden and active. ” (Daily Independent)
