The All Progressives Congress (APC) will today (Saturday) holds its primary election for the Bayelsa State governorship election slated forNovember 16, 2019.
The state Secretary of the party, Alabo Martins, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Friday, said that accreditation of party members will commenceat 10:30 am at the ward offices or ward-designated meeting points across the state.
He said the accreditation willend by 11:30 am while voting will begin by noon and close by1 pm.
According to him, the election would be open ballot system whereby party members would queue up behind the aspirant of their choice.
The Bayelsa APC Governorship Primaries Committee headed by Yobe State Governor, Mai-Mala Buni will supervise and collate results from the direct primaries.
Six aspirants were cleared to contest the primaries including immediate past Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, oil surveillance contractor, David Lyon, a former Commissioner in the State, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, a businessman, Preye Aganaba, and two women, Mrs. Diseye Poweigha and Professor Ongoebi Etebu.
Buni, who was appointed by the APC National Working Committee as Returning Officer for the primaries is already in Yenagoa to oversee the exercise.
There was a beehive of activities at the party’s secretariat along the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road with a heavy presence of policemen and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The Yenizue-Gene section of the road housing the APC secretariat was cordoned off by the security operatives, which caused heavy traffic, forcing motorists to make detours from nearby streets. (Independent)
