The Chairman of Eke Awka Main Market in Anambra State, Emeka Agummadu, a.k.a Baby Awka, has regained his freedom.
Baby Awka was arrested on Wednesday by a team of Police officers led by the state Police Commissioner John Abang, following a tip-off.
Addressing journalists in Awka on Friday, Agummadu refuted media reports alleging that he was a financier of cult activities in Awka and environs.
He said: “I am neither a cultist nor a sponsor of cult killings or any of such in the state.”
The market leader further described the allegation as false and unfounded saying that it is aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
He promised to work with the state government in the provision of security in the area.
News Expressreports that a statement by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, on Wednesday had said that Agummadu and three others were arrested on allegations of membership and sponsorship of cult activities in the area.
