Managing Director of Newswatch Times, Moses Jolayemi, has explained why the paper, formerly known as Daily Newswatch, assumed a new name. The name change was effected last Thursday, October 30, with News Express being the first to report it the next day.

Speaking yesterday during a meeting with the staff of the media organisation at the company’s head office in Lagos, Jolayemi said it had become necessary to update editotial and non-editorial staff on the recent development in a court judgement and new identity of the newspaper.

He said up till yesterday the company had not received a copy of the said judgement, adding that the publisher, Jimoh Ibrahim, only decided to comply with the judgement on principle.

“He said, as a lawyer himself, we should not set a bad precedence. This informed our compliance and the birth of the new company duly registered,” said Jolayemi.

He assured the staff of the effort of Ibrahim to ensure regular payment of salary.

Jolayemi also demanded more commitment from the staff as this, he said, is the only way to move the company forward and make it more competitive in the newspaper market.
