Suspected militants believed to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect yesterday launched a coordinated attack on Uba and Mubi towns of Adamawa State, North-East Nigeria.
Both towns are located at the northern part of the state bordering Michika and Madagali earlier under siege by the Islamists.
Residents said gunshots are currently being heard in both towns and that there had been fierce battles earlier in the day. Security troops have made several attempts to repel attacks on the two towns.
Although no authority has confirmed the two attacks, fleeing residents said that the Nigerian Air Force have started pounding the insurgents with Helicopter gunship as sound of explosions and gunshots are being heard across both towns.
Several people have deserted Mubi and neighbouring towns, seeking refuge towards the central part of the state, particularly Yola, the state capital.
The latest attack on Mubi is believed to be an attempt by the dreaded sect members to consolidate their grip in the Adamawa North Senatorial Zone, having captured Madagali and Michika local government areas of the state.
Mubi is the second major commercial city of Adamawa state after Yola.
