Five people have died and 12 others injured after a vehicle loaded with explosive devices went off in Azare Motor Park in Bauchi State, in Nigeria’s north-eastern region.
The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Muhammad, who confirmed the incident, said the explosion occurred at 9:45 p.m. yesterday.
Muhammad said the dead victims were charred beyond recognition, while 12 others who sustained various degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Azare.
He added that the scene of the incident has been cordoned off by a Police Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit.
Although nobody has claimed responsibility for the blast, last night’s incident is about the third time Azare Town has come under attack from Boko Haram terrorists.
The sect members destroyed a police station and some commercial banks in Azare on December 5, 2011. They returned to the town with another attack on December 3, 2012.
