More trouble for Mobolaji Aluko as NUJ alleges irregularities at Otuoke varsity, demands probe

The Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged the Federal Government to investigate the allegations of discriminatory practices against the management of Federal University, Otuoke.

It noted that the development, if not nipped in the bud, could jeopardise the growth of the three-year-old university.

In a four-point communique issued on Friday after its congress at the Press Centre, Yenagoa, the NUJ listed wrong placement of staff, violation of due process and non-confirmation of staff as some of the illegalities going on in the institution.

“Congress expressed concern with complaints on the activities in the university, on issues ranging from wrong placement of staff, violation of due process, non-confirmation of staff and other illegalities,” it said.

The NUJ called on the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education to intervene with a view to correcting the irregularities.

News Express had on September 29 reported similar complaints by Otuoke youths, who on on September 4 barricaded the gate of the university located in the home town of President Goodluck Jonathan, demanding the sack of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko.
