Detained investigative journalist and activist Tega Sampson Oghenedoro alias Fejiro Oliver has been released.
His close friend and human rights activist, Mr. Inibehe Effiong, who announced this minutes ago said details would be provided later.
Fejiro was arrested, arraigned before a Minna magistrate court and remanded in prison custody for allegedly demanding N50 million to drop a sensitive story about the Niger State Government. He has dismissed the “totally false, malicious and baseless allegations of blackmail.”
A producer with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Asaba, Delta State, but better known as an online journalist, Fejiro charged before a magistrate court in Minna, which remanded him at the Niger State Medium Prison till the case comes up for hearing on October 14.
His lawyer however applied for bail while the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) mounted pressure for his release.
