The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has disassociated itself and members from the alleged clash between the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and some youths in Nnewi during Thursday’s Biafra Sit-at-Home exercise.

The group alleged that some agents of the Federal Government who are not happy with the success of the exercise want to cash in on the Nnewi incident which allegedly led to the demise of two NDLEA staff members to take the shine out of the successful exercise.

A statement made available to journalists on Friday by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, accused the Federal Government of peddling false accusation against IPOB, which he described as a peaceful movement.

The statement reads in part: “It is crystal clear to the general public that since the inception of IPOB, we do not carry machetes, AK 47 rifle or any weapon.

“We wonder why Nigeria Government and her security agencies would come up with such allegation linking IPOB with such rubbish incident, instead of accepting that they failed to deceive Biafrans not to obey the sit at home directive.

“National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, clashed with some Nnewi youth and drug dealers in Nnewi yesterday not IPOB, because we do not indulge in such evil acts.

“NDELA, security agencies and Nigeria Government involving IPOB in this recent attack against innocent citizens in Nnewi is not acceptable and we must get to the roots of it.

“Our people in Nnewi complied with the directive given by IPOB for Biafrans to honour our fallen heroes and heroines that died during the genocidal war against the people of Biafra between 1966 and 1970, therefore, IPOB cannot force anybody to sit at home.”

While urging Biafrans to stay calm and hope for Biafra freedom, IPOB maintained that the group will remain peaceful no matter the level of killing and massacre against of members.
