Hundreds of angry women and youths in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State yesterday attacked the convoy of the state governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero, when he visited the area for the first time to commiserate with the people over last week’s invasion of some communities by armed Fulani herdsmen which led to the killing of about 50 people, including three soldiers.
“The women were said to have dressed half naked in black attires, and together with the youths attempted to block the governor from entering the area, accusing him of neglecting them and for allowing his Fulani brothers to unleash mayhem on them,” THISDAY reports this morning, adding:
“Yero who was said to have been accompanied to the area by a heavy security arrived the area amidst heavy rain, but the women and youths were said to have defied the rain and trooped out to the road awaiting the governor.”
The paper quotes a community leader in Karshin Daji, one of the communities that were attacked last week, as telling it on telephone that the governor’s visit was not out of concern for the plight of the people but it was for his selfish political interest.
The governor’s media aide, Mallam Ahmed Maiyaki, however, denied the incident, describing it as mischievous.
