Investigative journalist Fejiro Oliver not the only one missing after appointment with Niger State SSG

There are Indications that Fejiro Oliver may not be the only person that the Niger State Government has to account for. He never went for a clandestine meeting with the Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saidu Idris Ndako, on Friday, September 19, 2014, as some folks have suggested. The venue of the meeting is an open place in Maitama, Abuja. Fejiro was to meet with the SSG of Niger State in company of two other media colleagues. The SSG had actually suggested Niger State for their meeting but Fejiro, an investigative reporter with online news medium, Elombah.com, who was recently hired by the emerging online news medium Daily Voice NG as a Managing Editor, rejected same.

I cannot make certain information at my disposal public. What should concern us now should be his safety and whereabouts, other concerns will be addressed when his whereabout is known.

Most of us have questions to ask Fejiro Oliver but we should not forget that ONLY THE LIVING CAN SPEAK. The dead can neither defend themselves nor answer questions. Even God did not pass judgment on Adam before hearing his defence. So let us stop this nonsense talk of Fejiro going to collect “brown envelope” from the SSG of Niger State.

Were Nigeria to be a sane country where the rule of law is respected, the issue of one having a meeting with persons he has been criticising would not have arisen in the first place. His wife, father and other family members are really in distress. Please let us rise to the occasion because any of us could be the next target.

One of my cardinal and guiding principles as an activist is to always identity who is the victim and the oppressor in any case. I believe Fejiro Oliver is the victim in this case.

We should not allow our personal views and reservations about his scheduled meeting with the SSG of Niger State divert our attention from the mutual solidarity which all comrades must always exude to each other in times of crisis. Let us not criminalize, demonize or scandalise the very precarious and risky struggle to rescue our nation from the clutches of these rampaging cult of looters, killers and vagabonds called political leaders who have arrogantly arrogated to themselves the power to determine whether we should stay alive or not. #FreeFejiroOliver.
