Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has lamented the death of Pastor Dimgba Igwe, Vice Chairman of The Sun Publishing Company, describing it as a sad loss which had depleted the ranks of the nation’s best minds in journalism.
The Anambra Governor said in a statement in Awka that the tragic circumstances of Igwe’s end in a hit and run mishap made his death even more painful.
“We have suddenly been robbed of a very bright star in our national firmament,” Obiano said in the statement.
He described late Igwe as a professional journalist, a gifted writer, thinker and analyst, adding: “He practised his calling with felt passion and will be counted among the pathfinders in modern Nigerian journalism. I think for a long time, he will be remembered for the breezy journalism of the Weekend Concord era of which he was a co-pioneer.”
The governor said the consolation was that the late Igwe sought to use the influence of his vocation to improve the lot of Nigerians and the fortunes of the country.
Chief Obiano while condoling the family, The Sun newspapers and fans of the departed columnist, asked Nigerians to emulate those attributes of the deceased which will help move the country forward.
