Nigerian troops have retaken Michika and Madagali Local Government Areas of Adamawa State from Boko Haram, thus making more gains in the war against insurgency in the country’s North-East.

As reported yesterday by News Express, the military had in the past few days also driven away the insurgents elsewhere in the North-East, specifically in Bama, Mararaba, Gulak, Uba and Bazza.

The latest gains in Michika and Madagali came after the insurgents, subjected to sever onslaught over the past few days by brave Nigerian troops, exhausted their weapons and became easy prey to both the soldiers and local hunters. Media reports said the hunters killed over 75 of the terrorists yesterday. Normalcy is said to have started returning to the two local governments.

Meanwhile, reports that Mubi, hometown of Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, was under assault from Boko Haram and that the paramount ruler had fled have been exposed as lies. “#Mubi has not been attacked. Troops are still in Patrol. Deployment positions in & around the town keeping watch. Situation is calm,” tweeted Defence Headquarters from the Twitter handle DefenceInfoNG·

Also yesterday, Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Ahmadu, rubbished reports that he had fled as Boko Haram purportedly approached the town.

According to the Danruwata of Mubi Emirate Council, Chief John Babani Elias, “The emir did not leave Mubi for Yola in order to escape from the insurgents. Rather, he went for a meeting with members of the 2014 Pilgrims Delegation Committee, of which he is the leader and would return to Mubi immediately the meeting is over.”

Elias, who spoke on behalf of the Emir, berated rumour mongers, stressing that there was no insurgency in Mubi and no Boko Haram casualties anywhere in Mubi North, Mubi South and Maiha local government areas.
