Obasanjo’s son shot by Boko Haram

A son of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Army, Adeboye, has been shot by Boko Haram terrorists. Adeboye was attacked on the Mubi battle field in Adamawa State yesterday, according to a report in Daily Sun, quoting an unnamed source.

The older Obasanjo himself was an accomplished soldier in his younger days, retiring as a General after serving as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, returning as elected civilian President from 1999 to 2007.

“The insurgents attacked a platoon led by the son of former president, shooting him,” Daily Sun reports. “He sustained serious injuries to his legs, and was being transported to the hospital at press time.”

The paper quotes another source as saying that Lt.-Col. Adeboye Obasanjo was shot while on the convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Major General Zaruwa, on their way to Mubi.

“One officer in the rank of Colonel died during the shootout,” says the report, adding, however, that Adeboye Obasanjo was alive and receiving treatment in a military hospital in the state.

Lt-Col Adeboye Obasanjo, an Army engineer, is serving at the division in Jos, Plateau State.

“He and his platoon were engaged with Boko Haram militants at Baza, which is the village of the GOC of the division when the incident took place. At least, 24 soldiers in the platoon were killed,” the report says.
