South-East PDP rejects police postings, accuses IGP Suleiman Abba of bias

The South-East leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the posting of the newly promoted Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) announced Saturday by Acting Inspector General of Police (A-IGP), Suleiman A. Abba.

Rising from a meeting yesterday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, South-East PDP leaders expressed worry over the alleged shortchanging of the zone and demanded that Abba and the Police Service Commission (PSC) should revisit the postings to ensure that justice is done to the various geo-political zones in the country.

“The South-East demands our fair share as this country belongs to all of us,” PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, told journalists at the Government House, Umuahia, after the meeting.

South-East PDP thus echoed the demand of frontline rights group, the International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety), which yesterday morning condemned the police postings, saying: “We wish to reject and oppose the non-inclusion of an AIG of the Southeast extraction among heads of the NPF’s 12 Zonal Commands in Nigeria.”

Away from police issues, South-East PDP also rejected the allocation of 8,000 polling booths to southern Nigeria and 21,000 to the northern part of the country by the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as unacceptable.

Apart from Metuh and host Governor Theodore Orji, others who attended the meeting included Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi; ministers of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu; Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka; Labour/Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; PDP National Vice Chairman, South-East, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd); PDP Women Leader, Dr. (Mrs.) Kema Chikwe; Chief Mao Ohuabunwa, and Chief Okey Emuchay, among others.
