An attacker has lost his life after scoring a goal for his club. Cameroonian Albert Ebosse was fatally struck by a projectile thrown from the stands during an Algerian league game between his club JS Kabylie and USM Alger in Tizi Ouzou.

The projectile is suspected to have been thrown by a fan of USM Alger.

Kabylie said in a statement: “The Ministry of Interior and Local Government, through Minister Tayeb Belaiz, has given the instruction to open an investigation into the circumstances

surrounding the death of Albert Ebossé.

“The JSK player succumbed to a head injury after being hit in the head at the end of the meeting with USM Alger.”

Ebossé had scored Kabylie’s goal in a match that finished as a 2-1 home defeat to USM Alger.

This fatal incident from a football stand comes on the heels of complaints by Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger that he was hit by a bottle thrown from the Besiktas crowd during his team’s last week UEFA Champions League qualifier against the Turkish club in Istanbul last Tuesday.

Ebossé played for Coton Sport FC, Unisport Bafang and Douala AC in his homeland before moving to the Malaysian club Perak FA in 2012. He signed for JS Kabylie in July 2013.
