The Police Service Commission (PSC) has submitted a list of senior police officers for promotion to President Goodluck Jonathan for approval before the names are made public.
A competent source close to the police top hierarchy told News Express that Chairman of the PSC, Sir. Mike Mbama Okiro, submitted the list to President Jonathan yesterday after a marathon meeting by PSC chiefs that lasted much of Wednesday and Thursday. The meeting was attended by all PSC Commissioners, with recently appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba making a brief appearance on Thursday evening.
“The meeting compiled a list of qualified and deserving police officers to be promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and constituted into the new Police Management Team,” the competent source told News Express.
He added that the vacancies to be created by the promotion would be filled by promoting deserving Commissioners of Police (CP) to the rank of AIG and Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of CP.
“The announcement will likely be made in good enough time for those promoted to be decorated with their new ranks early next week,” the source said.
News Express reports that Abba has operated without a management team since his appointment on July 31 following the mass retirement of DIGs since they could not serve under their junior – Abba having leapfrogged from AIG to the rank of Acting IGP upon the retirement of erstwhile IGP Mohammed Abubakar.
