Twist at Enugu impeachment sitting as panel rejects medical report on Deputy Governor

A twist was Thursday added in the ongoing investigation of the Enugu State Deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, as the probe panel insisted that a doctor from the state-owned hospital be procured to re-examine the embattled deputy governor.

The panel rejected the medical report on Onyebuchi, who had collapsed while testifying at the panel on Wednesday, from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu, signed by a consultant physician and cardiologist, Dr B.C Anusiuba.

It held that the report from the Parklane Hospital be brought today during its sitting for examination on the matter. Onyebuchi had midway into his over three hours defence on Wednesday collapsed, forcing the panel to halt proceedings as his aides and members of family rushed him to the hospital.

At the resumed sitting of the panel yesterday, which Onyebuchi could not attend, one of his counsel, Peter Eze, had tendered a medical certificate as to the state of health of the deputy governor.

Eze said he was not allowed to see the deputy governor on Wednesday, but saw him yesterday morning and had a brief discussion with him.

He stated that the medical report tendered yesterday signed by Dr. Anisiuba, a consultant physician and cardiologist with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, shows that the deputy governor “has low blood pressure”, adding that from what he saw it was clear that he will be unable to appear before the panel.

Eze renewed their application that the matter be adjourned to Monday, August 18, 2014 to enable the deputy governor appear and continue with his evidence.
