A member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, representing Nnewi South Constituency, Kingsley Iruba, has for a second time since he graced the lawmaking chambers at Awka, in 2011 put smile on the faces of the people of his constituency through the empowerment of youths, widows and the less-privileged.

He made this known while giving account of his stewardship at Central School, Azigbo in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state. Iruba noted that he had accomplished most of the promises he made during the election campaign.

According to him, the promises range from infrastructural development, provision of an ultra-modern oil palm mill, cassava processing mill, free health-care, youth development and sports; empowerment/skill acquisition, among others.

On employment, Iruba said that he has assisted over 15 persons to secure employment both at the federal and state level; as well as construction of classroom blocks at Omaigwe Community Primary School, Osumenyi and Ugwuochi migrant farmers school Amichi, through the Millenium Development Goals projects (MDGs).

“I have sponsored and supported so many motions and bills for the benefit of our constituency and Anambra State. Some have been passed by the House while some are in progress.”

He added that more than 200 persons were empowered between 2012 and 2013 while over 400 youths, women, widows and less-privileged were also trained and empowered in various skills through capacity building.

According to him, the skills acquired by the beneficiaries include cake-making, carpentry, shoe making, barbing, soap making, bead and computer repairs.

The lawyer-turned politician noted: “It is not in doubt that it is only by empowering our people that we can reduce poverty and other social vices in our state. We believe that by so doing, we can drastically reduce poverty and social vices.”

Commending Iruba’s efforts, the member representing Nnewi South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Chris Azubogu said that Iruba has proved himself a worthy representative.

“If he could perform this much with a small position, you can imagine what he can do when given a bigger responsibility. I always say, you must be prepared to meet an opportunity; if not, you can never meet an opportunity. I will support him fully for a second term, so that then, he can aspire for the position of the speaker of the house.”

Also, an indigene of the town and an elder statesman, Joshua Mkparu said: “Iruba has been fruitful. Going by the records, there’s evidence of commitment, bearing the good of the people of his constituency as utmost in his mind.”

Beside financial packages and food items to widows and less-privileged, working tools, generating sets and clippers for salons operators, sewing machine for tailors, shoe making machine for cobblers and brick laying equipments were among items distributed at the occasion.
