The nurse who stubbornly traveled to Enugu State contrary to instructions and is suspected to have exposed 21 persons to the risk of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has finally been quarantined in Lagos.

This was disclosed this morning in Abuja by the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, while briefing journalists on the progress being made in combating the dreaded disease imported into Nigeria 24 days ago by late Liberian-American Mr. Patrick Sawyer.

The identity of the nurse is a guarded secret. Her mission to Enugu is unclear, but the talk all over town in the state capital is that she was in town for the wedding of a relation.

Prof. Chukwu confirmed during this morning’s media briefing that only 11 people in the country have been conclusively proved to have contracted the disease.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, had told reporters after yesterday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, the that one of the nurses who had contact with the index patient, late Patrick Sawyer, had traveled to Enugu State contrary to instructions and had had contact with the 21 persons.

According to Mr. Maku, 198 Nigerians have been traced to have contacted the virus. He said that while 177 are in Lagos, 21 persons in Enugu are being watched.

The Nigerian Government has declared EVD a National Emergency.
