The Nigerian military has been urged to urgently come to the rescue of the people of Gwoza, Borno State, whose town has been reportedly occupied by Boko Haram terrorists since Tuesday.
A Gwoza native, Aisha Umar, was literally crying as she spoke with News Express minutes ago from the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
“Security men should come to our rescue before the entire community is wiped out,” Aisha begged.
She said the tragedy started on Tuesday, August 5.
“Soldiers were sent there on Tuesday night but were over-powered and ran away. Some of them even escaped to the mountain with our men, leaving only old women and children behind in the town,” Aisha told News Express.
Continuing, Aisha lamented: “As at this moment there are no soldiers and no security men in Gwoza. The killing has been going on. My uncle was butchered like a ram this morning. Reports reaching us indicate that those who escaped to the mountain have run out of food and are starving to death. In fact, two people have died in the mountain.”
Contacted for comments, Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, told News Express: “We’re working on that area; we’re working. They should have hope.”
