Police invite Nigeria Football Supporters Club President-General, Secretary over illegal withdrawal

Officials of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) are expected to be guests of Zone Two of the Nigerian Police Onikan, Lagos, tomorrow, August 5.

They have been invited to answer to allegations of reckless spending at the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil and alleged recent illegal withdrawal from NFSC’s account.

The key invites are the President-General, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, and Secretary-General, Reverend Sam Ikpea.

Highly placed inside sources alleged that the duo withdrew the sum of N20 million from the club’s account without the knowledge of the National Chairman, Prince Vincent Okumagba, thus necessitating the invitation of the police to look into the matter.

News Express learnt that some NFSC officials were arrested and detained for three days at the Alakara Police Station in Mushin Lagos in connection with the fraud before they were released on bail.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government donated N50 million to the NFSC to enable it send members to support the Super Eagles at the World Cup. This was in addition to donations by several football-friendly corporate bodies.

“We are saddened that such unholy practice was allowed in the first instance,” said a top source, who does not want to be named. He insisted that “the alleged illegal withdrawal from NFSC accounts without the appropriate mandates must be investigated and we intend to drag the bank to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).”
