The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has developed a framework that would carry along voters in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated this on Saturday during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

“We have developed a framework for IDP voting and we validated that framework with full participation of stakeholders. For those who are displaced in a particular state, and are registered in that state will be able to vote there.

“But for citizens of a particular state who are in Displaced Persons Camps in another state, they can only vote in another state because it can manage a national constituency,” he stated.

On the issue of conflicting court judgments on the fielding of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Zamfara State, Mahmood explained that the commission would always respect court judgments.

Although he explained that the electoral body usually works with the latest court judgment, he, however, stated that there were two separate court judgments issued and delivered in the state on the same day.

The INEC boss maintained that the commission would carefully study both judgements before taking a definite stand before the general elections.

His comments come four days after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja APC from fielding candidates in the forthcoming general elections in Zamfara State.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu who gave the ruling on Friday following a suit filed by the APC challenging the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a letter dated October 9, 2018, INEC had barred the party from fielding candidates in the state for failing to conduct its primaries within the stipulated time. (Channels TV)
