Seven policemen attached to the Anambra State Government House in Awka are currently in detention in connection with missing vehicle parts.
News Express learnt that the policemen were on duty a fortnight ago when 11 brain boxes were removed from some Toyota Hilux buses while the screen of two of the buses were also smashed.
The incident was said to have occurred on the night the Hilux buses arrived from Lagos.
The seven policemen are being detained for alleged negligence of duty. They were said to be sleeping when the incident happened. A civilian who allegedly made what was described as a suspicious call around 2am that day – 10 minutes before the incident – has also been apprehended.
A source told News Express: “Following the report to the state police command, the policemen on duty on the day the theft occurred were quickly arrested and taken to the ‘B’ Division of the state police command for interrogation. They have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).”
Contacted on phone, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said that the incident was still being investigated. He assured that the command was working round the clock to ensure that justice was done in the case.
