Airtel Nigeria names Gbenga Rotimi Legal Director

Gbenga Rotimi has been appointed Director Legal Affairs and Company Secretary by Airtel Nigeria. He will be responsible for the company secretariat, board and legal matters.

Rotimi brings to the Airtel board over 20 years professional experience covering legal and commercial roles across the United Kingdom, sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia with extensive Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) industry experience.
Segun Ogunsanya, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Airtel Nigeria, said Rotimi’s appointment is a glowing testimony to the company’s efforts at providing strong platforms for Nigerian talents in line with its vision of becoming the employer of choice for exceptionally talented Nigerians.

Prior to his appointment, Rotimi was the Lead Consultant at the M1 Group; a holding company with diverse worldwide international interests in telecommunications, real estate, retail, energy, power generation, financial asset management and aviation.

He was also previously Group Director, Commercial, Legal & Regulatory affairs at Helios Towers Africa and Chief Commercial & Regulatory Officer, Helios Towers Nigeria, where he was responsible for General Management for the Federal Capital Territory and Northern Nigeria. He once functioned as Opportunity Consultant at the Hewlett-Packard Company for Europe, Middle East and Africa based in the UK responsible for the delivery of ICT solutions to multinational clients.
For almost 10 years, Rotimi was with NTL Incorporated, now Virgin Media Services. Following NTL’s sale of its wireless and broadcast business to Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group, he continued with the newly branded Arqiva Ltd and held a number of roles including Director/Head of Commercial & Risk Management for the Arqiva Digital Switchover team whose track included winning new long term contracts for £3.5 billion for Regulated Network Access and high power managed digital transmission services.

A Barrister of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with LLB (honors) from the University of Hull, UK; Rotimi also possesses a Masters of Law Degree (LLM) in Commercial Law from the University of Bristol, UK and an MBA from Henley Business School, UK, as well as additional post graduate qualifications in the Management of Risk & Insurance and Economics from the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK.
