Boko Haram terrorist group has laid claim to a successful incursion into southern Nigeria, specifically into Nigeria’s former capital, Lagos.
The group has since its formation in 2006 been restricted to the country’s Muslim-dominated North, where it has carried out atrocious attacks since it went violent in 2009.
However, in a new video made available to AFP, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau claimed responsibility for the June 25, 2014 bomb blasts near Folawiyo Energy fuel depot in Apapa, Lagos. At least five persons and the suspected suicide bomber died in the explosions which the police and the Lagos State Government had claimed resulted from a gas cylinder.
But Shekau claimed in the AFP video: “A bomb went off in Lagos. I ordered the bomber who went and detonated it.”
He also claimed responsibility for the bomb explosion which killed at least 22 persons the same day at EMAB Plaza in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
