Excited shoppers Friday stormed the shopping mall in Festac to purchase wares at discounted rates following the ‘Black Friday’ promotional programme by Shoprite.

The mall was packed full with many customerskeen on availing themselves of the reduced price rates. The Guardian learnt that some shoppers arrived at the shopping mall’s doorstep as early as 5:00 am waiting to be attended to. Shopping activities more than quadrupled as the mall witnessed heavy foot traffic an hour after the complex opened at 8:00 am.

The Black Friday promotional programme by Shoprite is sometimes targeted by traders who hope to resell the purchased wares bought at a discount at the normal rate. Many of the shoppers, however, were not aware that not all items within the store are listed at percentage discount.

Some shoppers knew the products that were discounted with the Shoprite black Friday bulletin that listed all the items for discount and the percentages per product.

The discount attached to the products varied with some as low as 20 per cent while others were as high as 67 per cent.

Predictably, the majority of the shoppers were buying products to be used during the Christmas and New Year celebration to avoid purchasing the same products at higher prices from the local markets.

As early as about 11:00 am, some product stands were already emptied by the shoppers.

The Shopritemanagement had troubles dealing with the heavy traffic in the mall but eventually had to restrict some numbers of persons going in, pending the time similar number of shoppers exit the mall.
