Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has called on residents of the state to remain calm over even as normalcy returned to the part of the state capital where suspected terrorists last night detonated a bomb. The blast occurred near Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s residence in Asikolaye along Nnamdi Azikwe Way.

A statement by Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, Director General, Media and Publicity, to Governor Yero, urged citizens of the state to be more vigilant on happenings around and not to hesitate to report suspicious characters or activities to the nearest security agencies.

“The minor blast which happened around Asikolaye area of Kaduna metropolis claimed no casualties, except for two persons who sustained minor injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment,” the statement said.

“Investigations into the blast has already commenced while security operatives are already combing the area for suspects. He pledged the administration’s commitment to protecting life and property of citizens of the state,” the statement added.

Yero urged citizens of the state to go about their lawful businesses without fear as security agencies are on high alert to avert plots by agents of darkness aiming attack innocent people.

While praying that God should expose those trying to cause mayhem in the land, the governor called on the people not to despair and to remain confident of the ultimate triumph of good over evil.

When News Express visited the scene of the blast last night, security personnel and the Police Bomb Disposal Unit were seen combing the impacted area at the foot of a provision store. The blast created a crater at an angle outside the shop and shattered the windshield of two Honda vehicles parked at the vicinity.

“We suspect that, they were targeting Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s security guards, because the blast missed them minutes after they left the area,” some witnesses said.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Aminu Lawal, in an interview with our correspondent at the scene of the blast, said investigation had already commenced.

“It is a minor blast actually, but our Bomb Disposal Unit has combed the area and investigation has already commenced. So far, nobody claimed responsibility,” he said.
