The Kwara state chapter of joint council of Medical and Health workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in collaboration with National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) will commence a three day warning strike on Monday.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the kwara state Chairman of NANNM, Cmr. Joseph Adekanye and that of MHWUN, Cmr. Muritala Olayinka Saheed and made available to journalists on Sunday.

The statement reads: “Arising from the Congress meeting of Coalition of Health Sector Union (COHESU) held on Friday 16th November, 2018 following the inability of the kwara state government to pay 10 percent increase on the existing 50 percent consolidated health structure (CONHESS) to our members in the local government level, the Congress resolved to embarked on three days warning strike effective from Monday midnight.

“This is also to address gross shortage of human resources as well as non provision of working tools in the health facilities across the state.”

The Congress had written series of letters, giving 14 days ultimatum and added another seven days which expires on the 9th November, 2018 without any response from the state government.

It further added that if the state government failed to response towards the warning strike, the Congress will reconvene and take a drastic industrial action immediately.

Responding to the development, the Kwara state Commissioner of Health, Alh Usman Kolo Rifun said he was just hearing about the strike action from journalists, saying “I am yet to receive official statement concerning the warning strike.”
