Immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed satisfaction on the improving level of governance in the South-East. He was speaking in Lagos on Sunday when Ndigboamamka, a socio-cultural organisation, honoured him at the Golden Gate Restaurant for the exemplary leadership he has continued to provide for the Igbos and Nigeria in general.
Speaking after receiving the ward, Obi said that the governors of the five Igbo states have continued to improve the standard of lives in the geo-political zone through responsible governance hinged on the provision of infrastructure to the people.
He called on Head Bridge traders in Onitsha to continue to show gratitude to the Governor of Abaia State, Chief Theopdore Orji, for fighting to see that the Onitsha Drug Market was not closed. He also thanked Governor Orji for his continued provision of quality leadership to the South-East Governors’ Forum.
Presenting the award to Obi, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. G. Nnachi Enwo-Igariwey, said the award was in recognition of Mr. Obi’s penchant for striving to achieve excellence in all he did, especially the excellence he brought to bear on the way and manner he piloted the affairs of the government of Anambra State for eight years.
Describing the award as a round peg in a round hole, Dr. Igarriwey thanked Obi for remaining steadfast in all that he did.
News Express reports that Obi refused to accept awards and chieftaincy titles during his days as governor, except in cases he could not resist.
