POETIC CORNER - But for the kids

Engr Enyinda Nathaniel Okey

Questions upon questions reign

Whether that I laboured in vain

Whether that my prayers were profane

My heart has seen so much of pain

There the question of what was my gain

Besieged all round by a frown

My efforts have run aground

Jests and frustrations all around

My once bright skin now brown

Where then can come my crown?

The children give me much joy

They prove not in vain did I toil

My hope once again being buoyed

With them a new chapter is born

Reprieve for me at last none to foil

Bank accounts I had nought

Nothing to show for the effort

Even a tenant my rents at fault

Whatever would I have in a vault

Save these children God brought

My mind had gone on a vacation

All appeared to me as consternation

The kids are there for exclamation

My labours in them find explanation

They condemn all my condemnation

Okey is a Lagos based solar energy Engineer, poet and writer of note.
