
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) will this morning in Lagos honour immediate past Minister of Information and Communications, late Prof. (Mrs.) Dora Nkem Akunyili, as a Foundation Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy.
Prof. Akunyili, who was a famous pharmacologist and celebrated former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), died on June 7, after a two-year battle with cancer.
She will be honoured alongside 46 distinguished pharmacists at the inauguration of the Academy scheduled to hold from 10:00 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja.
Among others to be honoured at the event are Prof. Ezzeldin Mukhtar Abdulrahman; former secretary of health in the defunct Interim National Government, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi; former coordinator of the National Programme on Immunisation, Dere Awosika; Hon. Jimmy Agbaje; former of Minister of Transport, Hon. Ibrahim Isa Bio; Dr. Maggie Ibru; Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa; Brig-General Ibrahim U. Babangida; Mrs Stella Okoli; President of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Dr. Nelson Uwaga; Alhaji Ahmed Yakasai; and founder of LEADERSHIP Group and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
A statement issued in Lagos by PSN President Olumide Akintayo said the inauguration will take place by 10am, with former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, as chairman.
News Express reports that Prof. Akunyili, who would have been 60 on July 14, had close to a thousand honours and awards during her lifetime. This is her first posthumous award ahead of her burial scheduled for August 28 in Agulu, Anambra State.
