Anambrarians in America donate computers to 13 Anambra schools

The Anambra Family Association of Memphis (AFAM) based in Tennessee, United States of America has put smiles on the faces of 13 selected secondary schools in Anambra State with the donation of 35 sets of computers.

Speaking to journalists in Awka yesterday, AFAM President, Dr. Peter Azogini, said the donation was made with the objective of enhancing learning through Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the state.

According to Azogini, the computer sets were handed over to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, for effective use in the schools selected.

He said the gesture was to support the efforts of the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, whom he said has shown enough commitment to furthering the education sector in the state.

Azogini expressed his delight at what the state governor had done in the education sector and other sectors of the state’s economy despite the short time he has been in office and in spite of the lean resources of the state.

He said: “The computers will be distributed to 13 selected secondary schools in the state to aid in their practicals, and improve the knowledge of the children in the use of computers especially now that most exams are going strictly computer based.”

Dr. Azogini disclosed that the commissioner showed some sense of commitment over the computers, which, according to him, was an indication that the computers would be put to good use to make the students computer literate in no distant time.

While noting that the initiative was a good example of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Azogini called on Anambraians in Diaspora to think home wherever they are as their partnership would help in providing qualitative education to the people and also afford the government the chance to concentrate on other areas of development.
