Boko Haram kingpin among 486 suspects nabbed in Abia —Defence Spokesman

A suspected Boko Haram kingpin on the list of wanted terrorists of security forces in Nigeria has been detected in the ongoing screening of the 486 suspects arrested while travelling in over 33 Toyota Hiace Hummer buses at night along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway in eastern Nigeria on Sunday, June 15.

This was disclosed in a statement issued yesterday evening in Abuja by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade. The suspects, who claimed to have left the North in search of work, were nabbed by eagle-eyed soldiers at Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, South-East Nigeria.

Olukolade said that other security agencies, including para-military agencies, have joined the army in screening the remaining suspects so as to ascertain their true status.

“Those identified as possible security risk or illegal immigrants are expected to be identified for further action,” he stated.

The defence spokesman disclosed that the identified terror kingpin, whose name he did not make public, has been taken into custody for further questioning.

The statement reassured the public that the military is sustaining its war against the terrorists, who have made large parts of the country’s North virtually ungovernable and are currently holding captive over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok, Borno State, since April 14.
