Obiano meets Anambra stakeholders, calls for partnership

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, in his efforts to run an all-inclusive government, has met with stakeholders from the various political parties in the state, during which they assured him of their cooperation to move the state forward.

The meeting took place at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia over the weekend. The stakeholders commended the governor on his achievements since assumption of office on March 17, 2014 and also hailed his courage to extend a hand of fellowship to all Anambrarians irrespective of political divide.

They also applauded the governor for assembling those they considered as among the best brains in the state to form his cabinet.

In his speech, Obiano said the meeting was aimed to solicit their support, urging them to join hands with his administration to be able to take the state to the level it rightly belongs.

The governor noted that time had come for the people to set aside their political differences and come together on the altar of common brotherhood in the overall interest of the state.

Obiano said: “It is wrong for people to continue to pursue narrow political differences long after elections were over, in all civilised societies, citizens usually set aside political acrimonies once the election is over and come together to build a better society for themselves and future generations.

“The only way that Anambra can attain an admirable height in all rounds of development is for the citizens to forge a common front, pool their resources together and pursue a set of goals.”

The governor said that he is never in doubt about the capability of the state to transform to greater height considering the quality of its human capital.

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, commended the governor for his efforts to turn the state around and further identified the need for the administration to set up independent power plants in the state as a precursor to the realisation of the full potentials of the administration’s four pillars of development.

He emphasised the need for a comprehensive social campaign that would give the people a completely new outlook to life.

The national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, commended the governor for taking up the initiative of inviting Anambra stakeholders for a brotherly dialogue and further advised that the initiative should be held at intervals to ensure greater effectiveness.

Similarly, a former PDP governorship aspirant in the state, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu, commended the governor for demonstrating a deep sincerity of purpose, and assured him of his support.

Ukachukwu informed the governor that his $140m investment in Awka would soon be ready for commissioning, adding that he is planning to set up more industries in other parts of the state.
